State Central Theater Museum Bakhrushin is a unique phenomenon of the Russian culture. The museum was opened in the mid-90s of the XIX century and had a private collection of the famous Moscow industrialist and philanthropist Alexei Alexandrovich Bakhrushin.

Today, the museum more than half a million items: costumes and scenery of outstanding masters of scenography, photography and portraits, costumes great actors, programs and posters of performances, rare books on theater arts, decorative arts and more. Theatrical Collection has become one of the most valuable museum collections of modern Russia - it contains work Bakst, Golovin, Kustodiev, Dobuzhinsky, Korovin, Juon, Roerich, Tatlin, Exter, Rodchenko, Popova and other great masters.

The museum is located in the former estate of AA Bakhrushina in Zamoskvorechye. The main building of the museum was built in 1896 by architect K. Gippius. This one-storey house,built in the shape of early English Gothic. This building has several asymmetrical accents. The lobby is a square tower house with a hipped roof; the second house has a large emphasis lancet window on the facade that draws attention and framed figure attic. Facades of buildings, except for some parts are well preserved to our days, but unfortunately luxurious interiors, suffered heavy losses. Only decor of "Gothic" lobby and fragments of cabinet survived.
