Van Gogh "came to life'

A few days ago I visited a very unusual exhibition. As its name suggests , this exhibition presents the work of one of the most famous and revered artists - Vincent Van Gogh. Expositions of this kind are called retrospectives, where the works of a single author are presented . In this case, the exhibition had a very unusual and impressive pitching. The halls were not familiar with ordinary museum expositions - paintings in frames on white plane walls. And furthermore, there was dark to such an extent that it was difficult to discern a human face standing a meter away from you. And it could be done only if the man fell under the spotlights, which visualized the most famous works by Van Gogh on the walls of different sizes. And this method is creating an enchanting atmosphere. Besides, this visualization was accompanied by classical music, making this space even more impressive. Another very interesting aspect is that this visualization was typeset in a presentation, which was accompanied by quotations from the diaries of the artist.

I was lucky that at the time of visiting the exhibition, because I had an idea of the life from documentaries about this author. It's hard to say whether I have been able to feel and see this show without background that I had.

Doing a critical assessment of this exhibition, I would rather praised the organizers, who provided the opportunity to acquaint people with the creativity of the artist but not having the presence of the original paintings. And of course, the moving pictures and how they have been shown are undoubtedly correlateŠ² with the approach of the author to his work. In a situation of lack of opportunity to see the originals, it is certainly a solution, nevertheless, it is very difficult to fully understand the artist, looking only at the flat surface of a spotlight and not seeing all the bumps, rough spots, smears of the original painting. In my opinion, this way you can get only a superficial understanding , without going into the process of creation and the quality of the creations.

Summarizing the above, I would like to say that this exhibition is certainly valuable way of giving special art. I advise you to visit this exhibition previously acquainted with the work of the artist.

  1. I really love the atmosphere. I think that the organisators had made a correct choice, when showed pictures in such a way. They look really amazing. Although I am not really fascinated by Van Gogh pictures, I really love the way they are represented. Yulia, I guess, you got a real pleasure attending this exhibition.

  3. Julia, thank you for your post! I really wanted to see what is happening behind all these advertising posters on the walls of Artplay. Frankly speaking, I find it much better to visit Puskin Museum of Fine Arts in order to get aquainted with works of Van Gogh, as Moscow, fortunately, has a number of originals of his pictures. To me, it is not worth mixing oil painting of past time and contemporary art in such way. Oil paimting has a great deal of unique features by wich it cuold be appreciated. It does not need adding any media projections, sounds or smells.
I agree with you that this exhibition gives people only a superficial understanding of Van Gogh creative work.

  4. The exhibition looks more like a show and ,may be ,thanks to it is so popular-the lines to entrance really enormous. As for my opinion, the format of exhibition aims somehow, to simplify understanding of Van Gogh art,but unfortunately, for a common unprepared visitor, who has no information about this unique painter , it could form a bit inadequate opinion.
