Van Gogh Alive

In the end of december I've read a short article at the news portal, I was working with, about the future exhibition of Vincent Van Gogh, holland  post impressionist of the 19th century.
I believe that every person, even not those, who is working in art sphere, but who is simply interested in art should visit it.

So did I, a few days after the opening of the exhibition, as I wanted to wait, till the long queues are gone, but I underestimated people's interest for Van Gogh. It took me over 2 long hours before I got there and got disappointed again: despite the fact that picures were projected on walls and floor, the room was overcrowded and the impression was spoiled. In order to outvoice the crowd, the classical music, which had to be not very loud, was very.

At that moment I understood that the rule of silence in the museums has sense: it gives and saves the feeling of art. You can think about that, what you see, and not be just a spectator, not simple see one picture after another. The last thing I've mentione, was also realized on the exhibition in the direct meaning: the pictures, being translated on the walls and floor through a projector, were changed one by another. You just went to that wall and started looking at the picture? Who cares, next slide is already there. It was the secod thing after the music, which made me have association with the cinema, but not with a museum.
I also got disappointed that the exhibition included the works mostly from the last period of his life, while technically it was possible to project anything. This period is known as his best, but I always like to see the development of the artist, the influence of the circumstences on his works.

The last thing I want to mention is that, despite the information told in the news, there is not much information and slides about Van Gogh's live. I expected to have a number of them about the influence of Paul Gauguin, but there were not.
In conclusion I would like to say that if you want to enjoy the exhibition, try to wait longer, till the number of people decreases and then, probably, you will like it. And another advice: you'd better have "an empty head", don't await anything or expect. It will be a kind of museums you've hardly seen before, be free to feel it.

  1. For me, videomapping is an interesting exhibition method. This approach allows both to change the scale and to save the original paintings (especially old ones) from transportation around the world.
