Under The Guise

"That's why I'm easy, easy like a Sunday morning"- the words of the Spanish sculptor Samuel Salcedo, who became famous for his amazing artworks. Exhibition of Samuel Salcedo was held in Moscow Contemporary Art Center Winzavod between ambitious international artists. There are two rooms, which includes Samuel's great human sculptures with unique emotional context. These realistically made sculptures seem very amusing, however it made a big confusion about emotion which Samuel planned to show in it.

The main sculpture  in the first room of the exhibition is a face on the wall. Samuel Salcedo uses modern materials, but very outdated method of creating sculptures by his hands. He used clay for mold and cover it with aluminum, rubber or wood. Materials  of sculptures are very misleading in appearance and seem to be very heavy but in real it is very light and cheap. Our lives are very similar this. Persons we sees in everyday life are very different and they can hide there personality under the mask. We all have a range of emotions, which can be very misleading from the outside then inside. Samuel’s works deeply show all the complex of the human loneliness and confusion.

Amazing sculpture of man and woman represents how people want show themselves and how they look without all clothes and "mask" they put on top of the reality. Samuel  can not make two similar sculptures. His great ideas come spontaneously and could change in creating process. During the creation of sculptures Samuel Salcedo add various details and he never knows how the final result will look like. That is why all his artworks has not similarities and all are very unrepeatable.

I recommend you to learn more about his artworks and method of creating these extraordinary sculptures and visit his website:   http://www.samuelsalcedo.com/
